Love seems to be the theme of February due to St. Valentine's Day.
We celebrate Valentine's Day by giving candy, flowers, a card, and maybe some food to the one we love.
In the Bible there are four different words used for love
• EROS is a sensual love and its where we get the word erotica.
• STORE refers to the love you have for your family and extended family.
• PHILEO refers to a brotherly love we have for close friends and it's where we get our word Philadelphia.
• AGAPE is a totally unselfish love that comes from God alone. It's the type of love that chooses to continue selflessly loving someone even when he or she makes it difficult.
Christ's sacrifice shows us what it means to choose to love.
We are instructed to love each other, in the church.
We must make intentional efforts to love each other, even when that's difficult!
Paul ends 1 Corinthians 13:13 by writing "And now abide faith, hope, love, these three, but the greatest of these is love." Why is love the greatest?
When Jesus makes all things new and we are ushered into Heaven, you will no longer need faith because you will be able to see Jesus, face to face!
You will no longer need hope, because your hope will be perfectly realized in Heaven.
But LOVE will remain, and you will finally know what real love is, as it will finally be known without being under the curse of sin.
I offer this as a word of encouragement.
Love one another in the church that God created you to be a part of at this time of your life.
Make an intentional effort to show love. Maybe with a phone call or text. Maybe with a visit.
Maybe with a handwritten note. Maybe with some food.
Regardless of how you show love to others, know that you are being obedient to God's word and that you'll be known as a church that loves. Love, Pastor Rob
